Brianna Akerley, MS, OTR/L, Senior Therapist

Brianna Akerley attended University at Buffalo in New York, where she acquired her Bachelor of Science followed by an accelerated Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. From there she relocated to Charlotte, NC to pursue her career in occupational therapy working with children.

Since beginning her career, Ms. Bri has focused her practice to include the treatment of babies, children experiencing difficulties with feeding, Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, neuro and genetic disorders, and trauma.
Ms. Bri has extensive training which includes the SOS Approach to Feeding, Trauma Treatment for Children and Adolescents, Sensory Processing Disorders, Executive Dysfunction, NDT, therapeutic auditory programs, and Pediatric Yoga. Ms. Bri is also a Certified Autism Specialist.

Ms. Bri gravitates towards children in a way unlike may others. Her love for children can be felt from the moment families meet her. Ms. Bri says, “I enjoy working with children and families because it’s very rewarding to see the growth and changes the children make and see how it impacts not only them but the entire family.”

Ms. Bri prioritizes the family’s goals to ensure they are benefiting from each session. She spends a lot of time planning and making sure the therapeutic interactions are fun, motiving and a positive experience for everyone.
This approach carries over, and into, the culture of IS Team. Ms. Bri says, “My coworkers are like family! We all collaborate and support one another each and every day. The work environment is very positive. IS provides a variety of opportunities to build our knowledge and strengthen our interpersonal and professional skills.”

In her spare time, Ms. Bri enjoys time with her family and friends, but mostly she loves to cuddle and kayak with her dog, Bentley.
